The town of Woodbury in Orange County, New York encompasses the hamlets of Central Valley and Highland Mills. Although the area existed in the 1700s as part of Cornwall and then separately as Woodbury Clove, Woodbury was not officially established until 1889. The area was originally known for tourism and the manufacturing of fly rods; it is now a bedroom community of approximately 11,500 residents, which also boasts a strong retail presence.
The largest employer in the area is the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, which is located right off the New York State Thruway at exit 16. This center is so attractive to shoppers, that there are buses running from the Port Authority, Newark airport and Manhattan hotels to the area daily. There are people who visit this shopping center from all over the world, so the center includes a staff of interpreters and greets guests in not only English, but Spanish, French, Japanese and Portuguese. The center includes 220 stores such as Armani Outlet, Banana Republic Factory Store, Christian Dior, Coach Outlet, Dolce & Gabbana, and more.
