Farmers Market in Kalispell MT
Every Saturday the Farmer’s Market is held at Flathead Valley Community College at 777 Grandview Avenue in Kalispell Montana. This year, the last market that’s currently scheduled to be held outside at the college will be on October 12th. The following week will be the final opportunity to purchase items at the market. That specific weekend the location will be indoor at the County Fairgrounds. So there is still time to check it out if you’re interested!
So here’s what I found when I investigated the market today. There were four rows of vendors, all selling different products. These included of course, fresh produce. There were approximately ten to 15 farm stands, all with fresh fruits and vegetables grown in the area. You could choose from lettuce, chard, potatoes, onions, garlic, carrots (some of them were HUGE), all sorts of squash and melons, various types of beets, corn on the cob and tomatoes. I’m sure I’ve forgotten some of the possible offerings. I purchased a type of beet I’ve never had before – chioggia beets. Apparently they are naturally striped and are a little sweeter than “regular” beets. I can’t wait to try them!
And the Farmer’s Market did not just have vegetables. There were also several vendors with fresh eggs. Other offerings included hand made knitted items, baskets, vases, jewelry, wooden items, birdhouses and more!
There were also several vendors with soaps. I spoke to Gloria, the owner of Nordic Allure who explained how she made her soaps. I had no idea there were so many different ways to do so. I did purchase a bar and tried it as soon as I got home. I have to admit it is wonderfully soft and beautifully scented!
As you can see from the photos, the event is well attended and popular. There is plenty of parking on the campus. both in front and behind the event. There is no fee to wander around. If you have time on a Saturday morning during the next few weeks, stop by! You won’t be disappointed.
