My husband and I purchased land in Kalispell several years ago. We needed to find a builder who would help our dream of a custom home come true. We interviewed several building contractors, arriving at each with our hand drawn house proposal and with a ton of questions. When we got to the Greg Bain & Company offices, we were greeted by Matt Bain. He listened, answered all our questions, came with us to check out our property, and left us feeling excited that our dream was possible.

Once we made the decision to use Greg Bain & Company, the process just kept getting better and better. We would recommend them to anyone who needs a home built because they were attentive, organized, flexible, responsive, great at what they do, and they had our backs. Here are a few specifics.

Flexibility: We had originally scheduled our home build to start in the Spring of 2019. So the team cleared the land and was ready to get started with the build. BUT we asked them to stop because of some delays with our for-sale home. We didn’t give them the thumbs up to start building again until mid-August. They were able to switch gears, work on another project in the spring/summer and then start on our project in mid-August when we were ready. Phew.

Attentive: Matt listened to what we said about how we lived and what we wanted. This was important because he made several suggestions to improve our house plans. It was obvious he actually heard what we said. For example, we wound up with lower ceilings than we originally proposed because the higher ones would have made the home less cozy. We also ended up with huge windows that let us feel as though we are practically living outside (most of our windows are at least 6′ tall). The shape of our home was changed a few times to reflect other excellent suggestions on the part of our builder. The end result was an amazing home that is perfect for us. 

Heating Unit: A few weeks before the house was going to be complete and ready to move in, our contractor found out a portion of the heating system had not been ordered by the HVAC company as committed. He was told it would be weeks before the unit would arrive. The HVAC contractor was then told that was simply not acceptable as we were moving into the home in a week or two. What could they do to fix their issue? A larger and better unit was delivered to the site within a few days. Delay averted.

Woodstove: We ordered a specific model of woodstove. Before it came, Matt found out the stoves were on sale, and the largest model was now the same price as what we paid for the smaller model. After asking us our feelings about the matter, he approached the store and arranged for us to get the bigger better model for the same price. And wow, that baby makes the house toasty!

Responsiveness/Timing: Not only did Matt respond very quickly to any texts, calls and emails we had about the home, he was totally on top of all the trades. Often, there would be multiple teams working on different parts of the home at the same time. There was rarely a work day where the house wasn’t full of activity. In addition, he stopped by the construction site twice a day to make sure everything was happening as expected. And if he found anything that wasn’t perfect, it was fixed very soon afterwards. Our project was contracted to complete by early February 2020. But because of Matt’s attentiveness and skill, the home was done, and we moved in EARLY. In fact, we were in right before Christmas 2019.
