Monday Miscellany – Not this week
Another Monday and as always various things are floating around in my mind. That being said, today is Memorial Day and it seems an inappropriate day to share a hodgepodge of miscellaneous thoughts.
Memorial Day
This Monday is not a day that is appropriate for a post about miscellaneous and sometimes inconsequential thoughts.
In 2016 I wrote a post in which I spoke about the fact that Memorial Day is not “happy.”
As I mentioned in that post, Memorial Day is a day to focus in some way on the people whose deaths allow us to live our lives so freely.
The men and woman who gave up their lives for us, the lives they were living at the time and the future lives they were never able to live, were brave, strong, honorable, heroic and memorable. Everyone of us have benefited from their sacrifice.
We must take a few moments today to bow our heads. We should send a thankful thought across the expanse of time and worlds to all those soldiers who have lost their lives for us. Perhaps a few minutes of silence prior to eating at our barbecues would work. Maybe an hour or two should be spent attending a service in our towns. Even just reading some tributes and sending silent thoughts to our fallen military. Whatever we choose to do, though, let’s not forget why we have this solemn day of remembrance.
And those are my thoughts of the moment. I wish you a thoughtful day and a wonderful week!
