Hiking Log – Almost Done!?
This is part three of excerpts from the trail log which was located on a New York portion of the Appalachian trail. For the post which explains this series, click here.
Following is my selection of this week’s thoughts of a hiker.

This hiker’s post is fairly self-explanatory, but….. The poor guy. He is super excited that his seven month long hike of the Appalachian Trail is almost over. But the place where he wrote this is not 86 miles from the end of the trail going north, or going south. In fact, he was about 500 miles from the Maine end and 800+ miles from the southern end in Georgia.
That being said, perhaps he was a section hiker, which might make sense. Those who section hike the Appalachian will do a piece at a time, in any order they can. The New York portion of the trail is 90 miles long, and he would have just come in from the southern end, so perhaps the 86 miles he referenced would take him to the northern part of NY which was all he needed to do. That would be a great accomplishment for sure if he had already done all the other states.
Or maybe he miscalculated. If he’s been walking for 7 months straight, it doesn’t seem intuitive that he section hiked in Maine and New Hampshire and Georgia already, skipping New York. So perhaps he’s going to get to his 86 mile marker and realize he still has a long way to go. And wow, I wonder what he would write then…
As for his $2, it will be long gone. And as for the strip club? I have nothing to add to that comment…
