An unexpected find on my Kalispell land
So…. this is going to be a short and wacky post. As I’ve been wandering through our property during my first full Montana Spring, I’ve seen or found all sorts of interesting things both in terms of fauna and flora. And while I’ve been exploring, the world has been dealing with Coronavirus, stay-at-home-orders, essential versus non-essential jobs and shortages of many things in the store, most notable being the great toilet paper shortage of 2020. Well….
If we do ever run out of toilet paper, I have a solution! I found plants on my property that will be perfect to fill in the gaps if the white paper runs out.
Here’s a photo of the solution:
Yup. Leaves. My foot is there for comparison sake. These are very large leaves. Running my fingers over them, I found they were extremely soft, almost velvety in nature. And guess what I found out when I uploaded a photo to try to find out what they are? I believe these plants are called Mullein, also known as Verbascum thapsus, also known as (wait for it…) “cowboy toilet paper.”
Well, there you have it. Apparently these grow all over the country, so look in your backyard. If you find some, you might want to save the seeds when the plants flower and plant more of them! Then you too will be prepared if we ever have another toilet paper fiasco.
That’s my tip for today!
