The Passage of Time
I was born in 1960. I distinctly remember in the 70’s, when I was a teenager, thinking about the year 2000. At the time, it seemed so far away. I thought about how I would be 40 years old, something I couldn’t even imagine. 2000 was just a day far in the future where my “old” self would live.
And here it is, 2014, the year I turn 54. I still feel as though I am a young 25 year old, but time keeps marching forward, one day after the other. Which is a good thing, by the way. The alternative would mean my journey would be over, and for the most part, I’m really enjoying my time here. Anyway, the speed of time was once again highlighted yesterday.
It’s such a cliche to say things like, “time flies when you’re having fun.” But it’s so true. My oldest son, Mike, joined the US Army during the past year. It seems as though just a few years ago, he was toddling through the house, with that infectious grin infusing the home with laughter. Now he’s off serving our country, a man in every sense of the word. And yesterday, his younger brother Dan was sworn into the United States Marine Corps. Again, it seems as though it was just a year or so ago that I was able to pick him up with one arm, or was putting him on the bus for kindergarten. He also is now a man of whom I am immensely proud.
Yesterday highlights just how fast time passes, providing an excellent reason why we should embrace every moment of every day.
Have a great day!
