Dearest May,
Let’s keep this between you and me, shall we? I don’t want the others finding out and getting jealous, but I can say with total truthfulness – you are my favorite. I simply adore you.
I love your beauty, the way you coax the trees to unfurl their leaves, and the flowers to poke their heads out of the ground. I love the deep green of a lawn after you’ve sent a strong Spring rain.
I love your warmth – it envelopes my world with wonderful firsts for the year. The first time the temperatures reach the 70s and I can put the top down on my car. The first time I can walk barefoot outside with the feel of grass under my toes. The first day I can sit on my deck enjoying the weather; conducting business or reading the paper while sitting in the sun has an entirely different flavor.
I love your songs. The incessant chatter of your songbirds, and the tap-tap-tap of woodpeckers. Opening my eyes in the morning to see the sun rising and hearing the singing of your feathered creatures makes my entire day better.
I love your creatures. I’m lucky to live in an area with a lot of forests, and in May it seems every type of furry being wakes up: the rabbits hopping across the jogging trail, the turtles moving slowly from place to place, the chipmunks and squirrels and deer and even the woodchucks.
So dearest May, it is with some trepidation that I say goodbye to you once more. I know you will return to me again, but while you are gone I will miss you, and will think of you fondly. Thank you for being you. You are truly my favorite.
Love,
Kat
